For as long as I can remember, I’ve known that Mount Everest exists. It’s like a universal truth. Although I know it’s a place, in my head it’s more of a concept without an image. What does Mount Everest look like?
Its name gives me a feeling of nostalgia.
I’ve never been to Mount Everest.

This place is the highest on earth. For some people, reaching the highest point seems important, like an act of self-improvement, a kind of human conquest and exertion of power over natural laws. Realizing the dream of Zarathustra.

I don’t understand George Mallory’s answer to why he climbed Mount Everest: “Because it’s there,” he said.
Please, someone explain it to me.
